Men's Soccer Defeats Georgetown 3-1
Oct. 23, 1999 Washington D.C. -- The Providence College Friars defeated the Georgetown University Hoyas, 3-1, in men's Big East Soccer action at Washington, D.C. on Saturday, October 23. Providence scored it's lone goal of the first half when Andrew Bussman received a pass from Andy McConville and knocked in an eight yard crossing shot at 35:40 to give the friars a 1-0 lead. The Friars recorded two more goals in the second half, one off Brian Evan's five-yard header (54:49) from a free kick and Chris Holterhoff's 15-yarder (84:57) sailed over the head of advancing Hoya goalkeeper Tyler Purtill. McConville and Derek Cobbe assisted on each goal, respectively. The Hoyas' Denis Scott scored off a diving header at the 79:16 mark for GU's only goal of the match, Scott's goal was assisted by Jason Partenza and Mert Incekara.
With the win PC improved to (5-8-1, 4-6-0 Big East) and the Hoyas fell to (8-6-1, 5-4-1 Big East). Purtill made 5 saves in the loss, while PC goalie Micheal Cardenas registered 5 saves in the win. The Friars will return to action on Oct. 26, when they host Quinnipiac at Glay Field. at Washington, D.C.
