Box Score

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Junior Timothy Ritter (Weston, Mass.) scored just 56 seconds into the second half to lead the Providence College (6-4-3) soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Bryant University (1-13-2) Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference match at Glay Field. It marked PC's third consecutive win.

The Friars created scoring chances in the first 45 minutes as they held a 12-1 edge in shots and forced Bryant's goalkeeper Andrew Snell to make six first-half saves. Providence nearly took the lead in the 34th minute when sophomore Alex Redding (Newton, Mass.) fired a shot off the cross bar.

In the second half, the Friars wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as Ritter scored his third goal of the season in the 46th minute. Sophomore Matt Marcin (Wilmington, Del.) gained control of the ball at the 18-yard box and played a heel pass to Ritter who beat his defender before ripping a right-footed shot into the lower left corner of the net. Providence continued to fire away and nearly scored in the 63rd minute when freshman John Raley (St. Inigoes, Md.) drilled a free kick from 30 yards out that glanced off the right post. In the 68th minute, Bryant's Matthew Brown found room atop the 18-yard box and fired a shot that missed wide.

However, Providence increased its lead in the 81st minute as freshman Daniel Fabian (Southbury, Conn.) scored his first career goal. Marcin possessed the ball at the top of the box and chipped a pass over the top to Fabian who found himself alone with Snell. Fabian faked the initial shot and waited for the goalkeeper to down before firing a shot from eight yards and into the back of the net.

The Friars finished with a 24-5 advantage in shots as Snell made 11 saves. PC's Timothy Murray (Haverhill, Mass.) made three saves to earn his career-high eighth shutout of the season.

The Friars are back in action on Sunday, October 19 when they face No. 9/16 Notre Dame at 1:00 p.m. in South Bend, Ind.
