Men’s Soccer Falls to UConn on Late Goal

The Providence College men’s soccer team fell to the University of Connecticut, 1-0, on Tuesday night at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
- Danny Griffin (Wethersfield, Conn.) took the Friars’ first shot of the game in the 24th minute. His blast from just outside the box made Huskies’ goalkeeper Scott Levene tip it over the crossbar.
- Colin Miller (Bel Air, Md.) made his best save of the first half in the 33rd minute. He was able to deny Abdou Mbacke Thiam, the Huskies leading goal scorer, on a 1v1 opportunity at the near- post.
- UConn was able to outshoot Providence 11-1 in the first half and 16-7 over the whole game.
- Miller made five of his six saves in the first half.
- UConn’s Abdou Mbacke Thiam scored his sixth goal of the season late in the match to give the Huskies the victory. Nike Petridis beat his defender on the end-line and slotted ball across from the right side. Thiam was able to finish inside the six-yard box.
