BROOKLINE, Mass. - The Providence College men's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to five matches with a 0-0 tie against Northeastern Monday night at Parsons Field in Brookline, Mass. The Friars, who are off to their best start since 2005, move to 3-0-2, while the Huskies are now 1-2-2. The Huskies carried the play in the first half, outshooting the Friars, 6-1. In the second half, the Friars created solid scoring opportunities, but were unable to capitalize. In the 61st minute, sophomore Matt Marcin (Wilmington, Del.) was in alone against NU goalkeeper Scott Partridge, but Marcin's shot was saved by Partridge. The Friars finished with an 8-5 edge in shots in the second half and 3-2 in overtime. Partridge finished with four saves, while PC goalkeeper Timothy Murray (Haverhill, Mass.) stopped three shots to earn his fourth shutout of the season and the 12th of his career.
The Friars are back in action on Friday, September 19 with a home BIG EAST Conference match against Cincinnati beginning at 3:00 p.m.
