KINGSTON, R.I. -- The Providence College men's soccer team was defeated by the 21st-ranked University of Rhode Island Rams, 3-0, on Tuesday, September 14 in Kingston, R.I.
After playing scoreless for most of the first half, Rhode Island netted what would prove to be the game-winning goal on shot by Joe Spofford with 2:04 remaining in the first half. URI's Emerson Aquilera carried the ball along the end line and crossed it right in front of the goal, where Spofford came sliding in and pushed the ball across the goal line.
The Rams added two more goals in the second half by Sasha Gotsmanov at 75:21 and 89:33 to seal the win.
Sophomore goalkeeper Chris Konopka (Toms River, N.J.) recorded six saves for the Friars.
Providence will return to action on Sunday, September 19 at Rutgers at 2:00 p.m.
