Men's Soccer Opens Season With 3-1 Win Over Boston College
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. -- The Providence College men's soccer team defeated Boston College, 3-1, on Wednesday, Sept. 1 as both teams opened the season with a BIG EAST match at the Brooks School in North Andover, Mass. PC junior forward Kevin Jones (Westford, Mass.) led the Friar offense with three points (one goal, one assist). The victory marked the first time ever the Friars opened the season with a BIG EAST win. It also marked the first time PC captured its season opener since 1994. The Friars' first goal came when Jones took a pass from freshman Paul Chase (Weymouth, Mass.) and blasted a shot from the top of the box past BC goalkeeper Chris Hamblin at the 7:12 mark. Sophomore back Kempes Corbally (Dublin, Ireland) added to the Friars' lead when he booted in a direct kick at 32:22. Senior midfielder Mike Eisenhut (Hanover, Mass.) netted the Friars' final goal at 35:20. Eisenhut converted from 10 feet out when he one-timed a shot on a pass from Jones. The Eagles got on the scoreboard at the 63:30 mark when Jorgen Lie blasted in a shot from 15 feet in front of the net. The Friar defense withstood the Eagle surge in the second half to preserve the win. PC sophomore goalkeeper Danny Glynn (Manchester, England) played strong in net, making seven saves in his debut with the Friars. Hamblin recorded one save for Boston College. With the victory the Friars raised their record to 1-0 overall and 1-0 in BIG EAST action, while BC fell to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in league play. Providence College returns to action on Saturday, September 4 in the Friars' home opener against Sacred Heart at PC's Glay Field at 3:30 p.m. at North Andover, Mass.
