Dan Pires enters his first season with the Friar coaching staff. A 1999 graduate of the College, Pires was one of the top goalkeepers to ever play for the Friars. Pires, who was Head Coach Brian Ainscough's first recruit for the Friars, was the cornerstone for the rebuilding of the PC soccer program. In four years at Providence, he started 63 games and made 441 saves. As a sophomore, he earned Second Team All-BIG EAST honors. Pires captained the Friars his senior season and led the team to one of its best years in the history of the program. He recorded a 9-9-1 mark, a .817 save percentage and a 1.27 goals against average while starting all 19 games in 1998. This season, he will work with the PC goalkeepers and help with the Friar defense. Pires, a native of Ludlow, Mass., graduated from Ludlow High School in 1995. While at Ludlow, he earned All-Western Mass., and All-State honors in 1994. Pires is single and resides in Ludlow, Mass. |
