Head Coach Chris Gabrielli
Nov. 15, 2013
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team released its schedule for the 2014 season on Friday, Nov. 15. The Friars launch their season with a scrimmage on Saturday, Feb. 15, at Harvard and their schedule features six BIG EAST Conference games.
"As both a New England and Big East Lacrosse Program, we are very fortunate because elite scheduling opportunities are plentiful!" Head Coach Chris Gabrielli stated.
The Friars spring into the season with their first home game on Saturday, Feb. 25, against Boston University, the first of seven home games that the team will tackle. The curtain closes on the home season with a BIG EAST game versus Denver on Saturday, April 19.
In the 2014 season, the Friars are scheduled to battle in 9 non-conference games. The Friars will travel to Vermont (2/22), Fairfield (3/4), Sacred Heart (3/8), Massachusetts (3/11) and Brown (3/22). Providence will host four games at home including Boston (2/25), Quinnipiac (3/1), Bryant (3/25) and Yale (4/1).
Kicking off the BIG EAST contests at home on Saturday, March 15 against Rutgers, the Friars inaugurate the first of six this season. The Friars will host Rutgers (3/15), St. John's (3/29) and Denver (4/19). Providence will travel to Georgetown (4/5), Marquette (4/12) and Villanova (4/26).
Marquette and Denver are two additions to the BIG EAST lacrosse slate. The two teams bring a competitive edge and fast paced approach that will allow for the BIG EAST to remain a power conference in collegiate lacrosse."Our already challenging Big East schedule was elevated further with the addition of Denver and Marquette to conference play, and our New England games provide us with the opportunity to compete with some of the best programs in the country every week," Head Coach Chris Gabrielli shared.
The Friars slate features three opponents that competed in the 2013 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament, including one opponent that reached the final four. Both Yale and Bryant earned berths into the tournament but were defeated in the first round of competition. Denver reached the NCAA Final Four where they fell to Syracuse, 9-8.
Providence will play their home games at Lennon Family Field on the campus of Providence College. For updates regarding the men's lacrosse program please refer to Friars.com.
