Men's Lacrosse Hosts Annual Alumni Weekend

Sept. 28, 2015

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -

On Saturday, Sept. 26, the Providence College lacrosse program held its annual Alumni Weekend.

The alumni faced off against the 2015-16 Friars in the annual alumni game.  Nine alums from the 2015 Class returned to campus for the event.

"It was nice to have our Class of 2015 back on campus this past weekend to celebrate their achievements while bridging the gap between our most recent alums and our newcomers," Head Coach Chris Gabrielli said. “The Class of 2015's collective leadership helped our program make huge strides throughout 2014-2015, and I am not surprised that they have all successfully transitioned into the next phase of their lives."

The day began with a banquet in the Leary Friends of Friars Room at Schneider Arena. Gabrielli announced the team awards from the 2015 campaign (full list below), and also recognized members of the squad who earned post-season athletic and academic honors.

Twenty student-athletes from the lacrosse program earned BIG EAST All-Academic Team honors, including Greg FitzMaurice ’15, who also was named All-Academic New England.

Peter Badgley ’15 became the first player in program history to earn BIG EAST Goaltender of the Year recognition.  Badgley and current Friar junior Jarrod Neumann (Springfield, Mass.) also were the first Friars in program history to earn All-BIG EAST First-Team recognition.

Additionally, Neumann earned Second-Team All-New England honors, while Fitzmaurice and Badgley participated in the USILA North-South Senior All-Star Game, marking just the fifth and sixth Friars to play in the game all-time. Badgley also participated in the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) East-West Senior All-Star Game.

“With their achievements, the 2015 team helped raise the bar of expectations for our lacrosse program, none more glaring than our first-ever BIG EAST Goaltender of Year, Peter Badgley and our first All-BIG EAST First-Team selections, Peter Badgley and Jarrod Neumann,” Gabrielli noted.
