PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team announced the signing of 16 student-athletes for the 2010 season on Tuesday, September 1. Each of the signees will enroll at PC in the fall of 2009 and compete for the Friars during the team's inaugural BIG EAST season in the spring of 2010. The student-athletes are Paul Carafello, Jacob Dauz, Kyle Dexter, Billy Falatko, Alex Forman, James Fuller, Joe Habib, Anthony McGuinness, Chris Pellichero, Tyler Pratte, Zack Sharman, Ernestas Steponas, Daniel Textor, Josh Torres, Ryan Walters and JT Weber.
"We are excited to welcome the latest group of recruits that will help our growing commitment to lacrosse at Providence College," Head Coach Chris Burdick said. "The young men in this class are as talented in the classroom as they are on the lacrosse field and they will bring a wealth of personality and character to the Providence College community. With the move into the BIG EAST, it remains important that we target young men who are committed to being the best people, students and athletes they can be and we are confident we have accomplished that with the class of 2013."
Paul Carafello - Midfield - Kinnelon, N.J./Don Bosco Prep Paul Carafello is a 6-foot, 190 pound, midfielder from Don Bosco Prep School in Ramsey, N.J. He played under Head Coach Mike Springer at Don Bosco Prep and posted totals of 32 points on 24 goals and eight assists as a senior. He has attended the Top 205, Camp 205 and Nike Elite lacrosse camps. Carafello intends to major in either engineering or business at Providence.
Jacob Dauz - Midfield - Sandy Hook, Conn./Newtown
Jacob Dauz is a 5-foot-7-inch, 175 pound, midfielder from Newtown High School in Sandy Hook, Conn. Dauz was a three-year starter on the lacrosse team under Head Coach Brian Micena. As a senior, he posted totals of 20 goals, 22 assists and 186 ground balls. For his efforts, Dauz earned First Team All-State and SWC All-Conference honors while helping Newtown win the SWC Conference Championship. He also garnered All-Conference accolades as a junior and made the Connecticut Super Juniors team. Dauz has attended the Top 205, Tri-Lax and King of the Hill lacrosse camps. He is undecided about his major at PC.
Kyle Dexter - Midfield - Victoria, British Columbia/Claremont Secondary Kyle Dexter is a 6-foot-5-inch, 205 pound, midfielder from Claremont Secondary School in Victoria, British Columbia. Dexter played for Head Coach Darren Reiseg at Claremont and won the team's MVP award as a junior. He attended the 2008 Fall Baltimore Ultimate Shootout and the 2009 Denver Team Camp, where he was an all-star selection. His intended major at Providence is business.
Billy Falatko - Defense - Silver Spring, Md./Georgetown Prep Billy Falatko is a 6-foot-3-inch, 185 pound, defenseman from Georgetown Prep School in North Bethesda, Md. Under Head Coach Kevin Giblin, Falatko helped lead Georgetown to an IAC Tournament Championship, a 20-3 record and a No. 8 national ranking by Laxpower.com in 2009. He earned All-County Honorable Mention accolades as a senior and was named the team's most improved player. Falatko has attended the Top 205 and Blue Chip 225 lacrosse camps and was an all-star selection at Blue Chip 225. Falatko is undecided about his major at PC.
Alex Forman - Midfield - Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy Alex Forman is a 6-foot-2-inch, 190 pound, midfielder from Neshaminy High School in Langhorne, Pa. Under Head Coach Josh Hanlon, Forman earned four varsity letters in lacrosse at Neshaminy. He is a three-time Suburban One All-League selection and was named to the Bucks Country Courier Times Golden Team as a senior. Forman has attended the US Naval Academy and Elite Lacrosse camps and was named a U.S. Naval Academy Camp All-Star. He is undecided about his major at Providence at this time.
James Fuller - Goalkeeper - Wilton, Conn./Wilton James Fuller is a 5-foot-11-inch, 175 pound, goalkeeper from Wilton High School in Wilton, Conn. Under Head Coaches John Wiseman and Paul McNulty, Fuller posted a 63 percent save percentage as a senior and earned All-State, All-FCIAC Second Team and All-Area honors. Fuller also won the 2009 United States Marines Distinguished Athlete Award at Wilton. As a junior, he was an Honorable Mention All-FCIAC Conference selection. He has attended the Top 205 and Top Star lacrosse camps. Fuller is currently undecided about his major at Providence.
Joe Habib - Midfield - Arlington, Mass./Northfield Mount Hermon/Arlington Joe Habib is a 5-foot-11-inch, 180 pound, midfielder from Northfield Mt. Hermon Prep School in Mt. Hermon, Mass. Playing for Head Coach Jeff Neil, Habib posted totals of 16 goals and nine assists in his post-grad year. At Arlington High School, he led his team in points scored during his senior season (2008) with totals of 51 goals and 24 assists. He was a two-time Greater Boston League All-Star at Arlington and attended the Bucknell Bison Brawl, Tristate and Champ lacrosse camps in high school. His intended major at PC is business.
Anthony McGuinness - Midfield - Katonah, N.Y./Fordham Prep Anthony McGuinness is a 5-foot-11-inch, 175 pound, midfielder from Fordham Prep School in Bronx, N.Y. McGuinness played three varsity seasons under Head Coach James Delucia at Fordham Prep, compiling totals of 29 goals and 14 assists as a senior captain. He is a two-time All-CHSAA and First Team All-New York City selection. McGuinness played for the New York City Empire Team in the summers of 2007 and 2008. His intended major at Providence is accounting.
Chris Pellichero - Defense/LSM - Wrentham, Mass./King Philip Chris Pellichero is a 5-foot-9-inch, 170 pound, long-stick midfielder from King Philip High School in Wrentham, Mass. Playing for Head Coaches Dan Warren and Steve Schairer, Pellichero was named lacrosse team captain for his senior season and earned Hockomock League and Attleboro Sun Chronicle All-Star honors after picking up 135 ground balls on the year. Pellichero was also a Hockomock League All-Star in 2008 as a junior. He intends to major in either chemistry or biochemistry at PC.
Tyler Pratte - Defense - Manchester, N.H./Manchester Central Tyler Pratte is a 6-foot-2-inch, 185 pound, defenseman from Manchester Central High School in Manchester, N.H. Under Head Coach Bill Lawson, Pratte earned New Hampshire First Team All-State and Senior All-Star accolades in 2009. He was named the Manchester Central lacrosse team's MVP as a junior and won Rookie of the Year honors during his freshman campaign. He has attended the Top 205 and Peak 200 lacrosse camps and was also a Varsity Hockey Athletic Scholar as a senior. He plans to major in biology at Providence.
Zack Sharman - Midfield - Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East Zack Sharman is a 6-foot-3-inch, 175 pound, midfielder from Central Bucks East High School in Doylestown, Pa. Playing for Head Coach Bruce Garcia, Sharman captained the lacrosse team during his junior and senior seasons. In 2009, Sharman recorded totals of 25 goals, 18 assists and 64 ground balls. For his efforts, he earned Suburban One League Second Team Midfielder honors, was an All-PhillyLacrosse.com Honorable Mention selection at midfielder and was a Second Team Midfield selection by All*Intell. He was named to the Suburban One League Third Team as a junior and was selected to Team Philly, consisting of the top 24 lacrosse players in the Philadelphia area. Sharman intends to major in history at PC.
Ernestas Steponas - Midfield - Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville Ernestas Steponas is a 6-foot-3-inch, 210 pound, midfielder from Hicksville High School in Hicksville, N.Y. Under Head Coach Chuck Arnone, Steponas earned 2009 Nassau County Lacrosse Coaches Association All-County honors and was also selected to the association's Academic All-County team. He captained the lacrosse team as a senior and led Hicksville to the Class A County Championship in 2009. Steponas also played basketball and football and was a two-time Nassau County Basketball Coaches Association All-Conference selection. His intended major at PC is finance.
Daniel Textor - Midfield - Rockville Centre, N.Y./Chaminade Daniel Textor is a 6-foot-1-inch, 175 pound, midfielder from Chaminade High School in Mineola, N.Y. Playing under Head Coach Jack Moran, Textor earned All-League honors as a senior after posting totals of 15 goals and 26 assists. He helped lead Chaminade to the New York State Catholic High School Championship as a junior and received all-star accolades at the Gait Cup National Tournament at Gettysburg College. He has also attended the Tri-State, Stony Brook Rising Juniors and Providence Elite lacrosse camps. His intended major at PC is finance.
Josh Torres - Midfield - Andover, Mass./Andover Josh Torres is a 6-foot, 170 pound, midfielder from Andover High School in Andover, Mass. Torres played under Head Coach Wayne Puglisi at Andover. He registered 25 goals and 35 assists during his senior campaign and garnered Merrimack Valley All-Conference and Lawrence Eagle Tribune All-Star honors for his efforts. Torres was also selected to the US Lacrosse National Senior Showcase North Team in 2009. He earned Merrimack Valley Conference All-Star accolades as a junior and was a Friar Elite Lacrosse Camp All-Star. He is undecided about his PC major at this time.
Ryan Walters - Defense - Chadds Ford, Pa./Archmere Academy Ryan Walters is a 5-foot-11-inch, 175 pound, defenseman from Archmere Academy in Claymont, Del. Under head coach Noel Breger, Walters earned Delaware All-American, First Team All-State and First Team All-Conference honors as a senior at Archmere. Walters also garnered Second Team All-State and First Team All-Conference accolades as a junior. He has attended the Top 205, Hotbeds and Brine Shootout lacrosse camps. Walters intended major at PC is biology.
JT Weber - Attack - West Hartford, Conn./Conard JT Weber is a 6-foot, 172 pound, attackman from Conard High School in West Hartford, Conn. Weber, who played for Bill Condon at Conard, was a four-year starter and captain of the lacrosse team. A four-time All-Central Connecticut Conference selection, Weber became Conard's all-time points leader during his sophomore season. As a senior, he earned First Team Class M All-State honors and won the Lance Corporal Lawrence R. Phillippon Memorial Award after recording 35 goals and 25 assists on the year. Weber also garnered Second Team All-State accolades in hockey and was the team captain and MVP. He plans to major in social psychology at Providence.
