Jarrod Neumann Named USILA/Nike Division I Scholar All-American

June 9, 2017

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - It was announced on Wednesday, June 7 that Providence College graduate Jarrod Neumann ’17 (Springfield, Mass.) has earned USILA/Nike Division I Scholar All-America honors. The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) is an organization that aims to enhance the sport of intercollegiate lacrosse for its members. This honor was established in 1989 as a way to distinguish those athletes who excelled on the field, in the classroom and in the community.

A Scholar All-American must be nominated by his coach and be a student with a senior year academic standing and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (4.0 scale). He will have behaved in a manner that has brought credit to himself, his institution, and to college lacrosse both on and off the field. He must also be an All-American, a member of a North/South team, or an outstanding league or conference player. Please note that simply being a member of the North/South team and/or being All League/Conference does not make the Student-Athlete a lock for the award. Each Individual will be evaluated on a case by case basis by the Scholar AA committee.

Neumann was recently selected 25th overall in the Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Collegiate Draft by the Florida Launch on May 28. During the 2017 season, he collected 27 ground balls and caused 18 turnovers as a senior defender. He also finished the year with two goals and one assist. Upon conclusion of the year, Neumann was tabbed USILA/Nike Second Team All-American and BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year. He also was selected to the ALL-BIG EAST First Team for the third-consecutive season and was invited to compete in the USILA/Nike North-South All-Star Game. Neumann graduated from Providence College on May 21 with a degree in Finance.

The Friars’ defense, led by Neumann, finished the year ranked ninth in scoring defense (8.35) and 13th ranked man-down defense (.742) in the NCAA this past season. They led the BIG EAST in caused turnovers Per Game (7.24), which also ranked 23rd in the nation. He played an integral role in leading Providence to back-to-back BIG EAST Tournament berths (2016, 2017), and the Friars’ first appearance in the BIG EAST Championship game (2017). Neumann’s leadership helped propel the Friars to their first national ranking in both the USILA/Nike Coaches’ Poll and the Inside Lacrosse Maverik Media Poll.
