PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College graduate Jarrod Neumann ’17 (Springfield, Mass.) was selected as the 25th overall pick by the Florida Launch (Third Round, 7th pick) in the 2017 Major League Lacrosse Draft (MLL) on May 28. The MLL Collegiate Draft presented by Cascade Lacrosse was held at Toby Keith’s Bar and Grill in Foxboro, Mass, near the site the 2017 NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Championship at Gillette Stadium.

Neumann, who only started playing lacrosse as a senior in high school, is one of Providence College’s all-time greats. The defenseman completed his collegiate lacrosse career this spring and graduated from Providence on May 21. He finished the 2017 campaign with three points on two goals and one assist. He collected 27 ground balls and caused 18 turnovers. Neumann earned USILA/Nike Second-Team All-America honors and also was named to the Inside Lacrosse Media All-America Third-Team as a senior. He also was tabbed BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year in addition to earning All-BIG EAST First Team recognition, BIG EAST All-Tournament Team accolades and NEILA All-New England First-Team honors. Neumann also was selected to play in the 76th Annual USILA/Nike North-South All-Star Game.

Neumann is the third player in program history to be drafted by a Major League Lacrosse (MLL) organization, joining Brian O’Rorke ’05. O’Rorke was taken by the New Jersey Pride with the 73rd overall pick of the 2005 MLL supplemental draft. Andrew Barton '14 was selected by the Florida Launch in the 2014 MLL Draft with the 53rd overall pick.

Neumann anchored the Friars’ defense that ranked 10th in the NCAA in scoring defense (8.35) and 13th in the nation in man-down defense (.742).

He also led the Friars to their second-consecutive BIG EAST Tournament appearance and Providence College reach the Championship game for the first time in program history. Neumann also played an instrumental role in helping Providence make its first-ever appearance in the national rankings, in both the USILA/ Nike Coaches’ Poll and the Inside Lacrosse Maverik Media Poll.
