James Barclay And Tate Boyce Earn NEILA All-New England Honors

May 15, 2018

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) released its 2018 All-New England Teams today [May 15]. Providence College was represented by senior James Barclay (Toronto, Ontario) and junior Tate Boyce (Matthews, N.C.), who were recognized on the NEILA All-New England Second Team. Both players were featured on the NEILA Preseason Team prior to the start of the 2018 campaign.

Barclay, a long pole defenseman, was recently a unanimous selection to the All-BIG EAST First Team and was the 57th overall pick by the Charlotte Hounds in the MLL Collegiate Draft. Barclay finished his career at Providence with 100 groundballs, 48 caused turnovers and three points. He played a critical role in helping the Friars make back-to-back appearances in the BIG EAST Tournament (2016, 2017) and the team’s first-ever appearance in the national polls.

Boyce, a three-time All-BIG EAST First-Team honoree and 2017 USILA All-American, has been a force for the Friars in between the pipes. At the beginning of the 2018 season, Boyce was named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List, which honors the most outstanding American college lacrosse player. He played 895 minutes in goal and recorded a 9.65 goals-against average and a 0.529 save percentage. Boyce also picked up 23 groundballs.

The duo are among 27 student-athletes who earned NEILA All-New England honors, spanning the First and Second Teams. A full list of honorees is below.
