FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Providence College junior midfielder Andrew Barton(Timonium, Md.) was named to the All-New England First Team. All-New England postseason honors and awards were released by the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) on Thursday, May 9.
The NEILA is comprised of 13 colleges and universities located in the northeast region. In addition to Providence, the NEILA encompasses Yale, Fairfield, Harvard, Brown, UMass, Bryant, Sacred Heart, Quinnipiac, Vermont, Hartford, Holy Cross and Dartmouth.
Barton was one of six midfielders selected as a member of the All-New England First Team. The remainder of the mifield was comprised of Sam Snow (Fairfield University), Colin Dunster (Bryant University), Connor Mooney (UMass Amherst), Alex White (Harvard University) and Rory Nunmacher (University of Hartford).
In its 2013 campaign, Providence faced seven NEILA opponents and posted a record of 5-2. The Friars defeated Vermont (12-9), Sacred Heart (12-10), Quinnipiac (13-12), Bryant (10-9) and Holy Cross (12-11). Providence fell to Yale (13-6) and Brown (7-6). In Providence's seven northeast games, Barton tallied a total of 20 points on 12 goals and eight assists. Barton recorded his best game against a northeast opponent in the Friars 12-10 win over Sacred Heart where he tallied five points on four goals and one assist.
Overall, Barton had an outstanding junior season where he finished as Providence's second leading scorer with 45 points on 27 goals and a team-best 18 assists. Barton started all 16 games for the Friars and generated 95 shots. He landed 64 of his shot attempts on goal for a .674 shots on goal percentage. In addition, Barton collected 32 ground balls and caused 16 turnovers. For his performance, Barton earned All-BIG EAST Second Team honors.
