PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team has claimed a share of the 2006 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Regular-Season title and will be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming MAAC Tournament. The Friars will face No. 4 seed Marist (6-8) at 4:00 p.m on Friday, May 5 in the semifinals at Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y. Mount St. Mary's (6-8) claimed the No. 2 seed in the tournament and will face No. 3 seed Canisius (7-7) at 6:30 p.m. in the second semifinal on May 5.

Mount St. Mary's and Canisius also claimed a share of the MAAC Regular-Season title. The Friars, Mountaineers and Griffins each finished the league schedule with identical 6-2 records. Providence won all tie-breakers to assume the top-spot in the tournament for the second-straight year. Marist was added to the 2006 MAAC Tournament as the No. 4 seed due to St. Josephs' post-season ineligibility.

Friday's semifinal winners will advance to the MAAC Championship game on Sunday, May 7 at Noon in Buffalo, N.Y. The winner of the 2006 MAAC Tournament crown will earn the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship.

The Friars finished the regular-season schedule with an 8-6 overall record (6-2 MAAC) in 2006. Providence has won three MAAC Regular-Season titles (2003, 2005 and 2006). The Friars also have claimed one MAAC Tournament championship (2004). That season Providence advanced to the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Tournament for the first time in program history.
