The Providence College men's lacrosse team will travel to Villanova, Pa. on Saturday, April 27 to face-off with No. 19 Villanova in its final game of the season. The Friars enter Saturday's game with an overall record of 8-7 and hold a 1-4 mark in BIG EAST play.
Providence last competed on Saturday, April 20 where the Friars fell to conference foe St. John's, 16-13. The game was tied, 10-10, heading into the final 15 minutes of play. The Red Storm outscored the Friars, 6-3 in the final quarter to hold a 16-13 advantage over Providence at the end of regulation. Junior Sean Wright (Silver Spring, Md.) led the Friar effort with five points on four goals and one assist.
As a unit, Providence has out-shot its opponents, 561-523, and have been out-scored by its opponents, 167-160. Providence has tallied a majority of its shots and goals in the fourth quarter with 155 and 44, respectively. Eighty-five (85) of the Friars' 160 goals have come in the second half.
Wright leads the Friars in total points with 49 on a team-high 38 goals and 11 assists. Junior Andrew Barton (Timonium, Md.) has tallied 44 points on 27 goals and a team-best 17 assists. Freshman Kevin Blair (Hingham, Mass.) leads the freshman class in scoring with 22 points on eight goals and 14 assists.
Barton is just one point shy from reaching the 100 career point milestone. With a goal or assist in the Friars' game against Villanova, Barton will become the 21st Friar to break the 100 point plateau.
Junior Ryan Shaw (East Hampton, N.Y.) has been successful in 172 of his 341 attempts at the face-off "X" for a .504 win percentage on the season. In addition, Shaw has collected a team-high 88 ground balls.

(Ocean City, Md.) has caused a team-high 30 turnovers over the course of Providence's 15 games. In addition, freshman Griffin Goudreau
(Campbell, Calif.) has caused 12 turnovers.
On the season, Providence has cleared the ball at 88.7 percent and has been successful on 235 of 265 attempts.
Freshman goalie Jack Connelly (Kenilworth, Ill.) has started all 15 games for the Friars. In 883:44 minutes of play, Connelly has recorded 158 saves. He posts a .491 save percentage and an 11.13 goals against average.
Providence and Villanova last met on April 28, 2012 in Providence, R.I. where the Friars notched their first conference win since joining the BIG EAST for the 2010 season. The Friars edged then ranked No. 13/15 Villanova, 15-11. Current sophomore, Greg FitzMaurice (Huntington, N.Y.) tallied a hat-trick to propel the Friars to victory. In addition seniors J.T. Weber (West Hartford, Conn.) and Daniel Textor (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) along with Barton and Wright notched goals to aid Providence offensively.
SCOUTING VILLANOVA: The Wildcats enter Saturday's game with an overall record of 5-7 and a 4-1 mark in BIG EAST play. Villanova's only conference loss came against Notre Dame on April 20th (13-9). Jack Rice and Max Hart top the Wildcats' score sheet with 26 points apiece. Rice has tallied a team-high 26 goals while Hart has notched 17 goals and dished out nine assists. Thomas Croonquist is Villanova's lead face-off man with 154 wins in 272 attempts. Defensively, John Locascio leads the team with 43 forced turnovers. In goal, Reed Carlson has played 419:58 minutes between the pipes and has recorded 62 saves.
