PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Freshman attack Jeff Merklinger (South Orange, N.J.) was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday, April 20. This is the first time he has received this honor.
Merklinger's achievements were recognized after his performance in conference play this past week. Despite dropping two of three on the week, Merklinger was a bright spot for the Friars recording seven goals and adding one assist. The rookie paved the way in Providence's 20-7 victory over Manhattan with four goals and two tallies in the Friars' 12-10 loss to Boston College. For the season, he has 23 goals and eight assists for a total of 31 points. He has also posted six multiple-goal games.
Merklinger, who played high school lacrosse at Seton Hall Prep, is the son of Richard and Linda Merklinger.
PC's next lacrosse game is against Holy Cross on Wednesday, April 22 at PC's Glay field at 3:30 p.m.
