James Barclay Selected 57th Overall In Major League Lacrosse Draft By Charlotte Hounds

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College senior defensemen James Barclay (Toronto, Ontario) was selected as the 57th overall pick by the Charlotte Hounds (Seventh Round, 3rd pick) in the 2018 Major League Lacrosse Draft (MLL) on April 19. The MLL Collegiate Draft was held at the U.S. Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Md.

Barclay, an integral part of Providence’s defensive unit, has started each of the 53 games he has appeared in. He played a significant role in the Friars 2017 BIG EAST Championship run, where the team made program history with its second-consecutive BIG EAST Tournament appearance and first BIG EAST Championship game appearance. Over the course of four seasons, Barclay has tallied three points on three assists. He also has collected 97 ground balls and caused 44 turnovers.

Barclay is the fourth player in program history to be drafted by a Major League Lacrosse (MLL) organization. Brian O’Rorke ‘05 was taken by the New Jersey Pride with 73rd overall pick in the 2005 MLL supplemental draft. The Florida Launch selected Andrew Barton ’14 (53rd overall pick) in 2014 and Jarrod Neumann ‘17 (25th overall pick) in 2017.
