Men's Lacrosse Set To Host Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team is set to host Brown on Tuesday, April 16 at 7:00 p.m. The game will be played at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I.The Friars enter Tuesday's game with an overall record of 8-5 (1-3 BIG EAST).

The Friars are coming off of a 12-11 victory over Holy Cross that took place on Saturday, April 13 in Worcester, Mass. Freshman Brendon McGuire (Wycoff, N.J.) paced the Friars with three goals to notch his first career hat-trick. Freshman goalie Jack Connelly (Kenilworth, Ill.) posted nine saves in the victory including a big save in the final minute of play to secure the victory. Junior Ryan Shaw (East Hampton, N.Y.) dominated face-offs, winning 19-of-26 draws. Providence held the advantage in ground balls 40-18. The win over Holy Cross ties the record for most road wins, five, for Providence in regular season road games since 1986.

The Friars have out-shot their opponents, 489-456, and have been out-scored by their opponents, 144-141. Four Friars have tallied 20+ points to date including junior Sean Wright (Silver Spring, Md.) who has recorded a team-high 43 points on 33 goals and 10 assists. Junior Andrew Barton (Timonium, Md.), senior JT Weber (West Hartford) and freshman Kevin Blair (Hingham, Mass.) also have broken the 20 point plateau. In addition, Wright and Barton have individually tallied a point in each of the Friars' 13 games.

To date, Barton has tallied a career total of 96 points. The junior midfielder is just four points away from reaching the 100 point club.

Providence has combined for 102 caused turnovers. Graduate student Michael Noyes (Ocean City, Md.) has caused a team-best 25 turnovers followed by Barton and freshman defender Griffin Goudreau(Campbell, Calif.) who have caused 12 turnovers apiece.

Connelly has started all 13 games for the Friars. He has recorded 10+ saves in 10 of the Friars 13 games and holds a record of 5-5 when doing so. Connelly has recorded 138 saves in 763:44 minutes between the pipes.

Providence and Brown last met on April 17, 2012 when the Friars fell to the Bears, 11-6. Wright, Barton and Shaw each tallied goals in the loss.

SCOUTING BROWN: The Bears currently hold an overall record of 5-5 (1-3 Ivy League). Brown has out-shot its opponents, 387-339, and has out-scored its opponents, 110-101. Henry Blynn tops Brown's score sheet with 30 points on 22 goals and eight assists. Five additional Bears have notched double figures in the scoring column, including Sam Hurster and George Sherman who have tallied 23 and 21 points, respectively. Jack Kelly has logged the most time in goal for Brown. Kelly has collected 73 saves in 439:32 minutes of play. Kelly posts a .493 save percentage and a 10.24 goals against average. Tommy Capone has taken the most face-offs for Brown and has been successful on 75-of-164 draws. Brown has been successful on 13-of-41 extra man opportunities and clears the ball at 85.6 percent.
