PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team is set for its Saturday showdown with BIG EAST foe Georgetown. The Friars and Hoyas are scheduled to face-off at 3:00 p.m. at the Multi-Sport Field in Washington, D.C.
Providence enters Saturday with an overall record of 3-8 (0-2 BIG EAST). The Friars trail Georgetown in the all-time series, 1-6. The Friars and Hoyas last met on March 16, 2013 where Providence fell to Georgetown, 16-8. Senior Sean Wright (Silver Spring, Md.) led the Friar effort with three points on two goals and one assist. Fellow senior Andrew Barton (Timonium, Md.) and junior Greg FitzMaurice (Huntington, N.Y.) also found the back of the cage in the match-up with two and one goals, respectively.
Barton leads the Friar offense with 36 points on a team-high 22 goals and 14 assists. Wright ranks second on the team in scoring with 34 points on 19 goals and a team-high 15 assists. Freshman Alex Corboy (College Park, Md.) leads the freshmen in scoring with 19 points on 17 goals and two assists. Freshman Joseph Fitzpatrick (Rockville, Md.) and FitzMaurice round out Providence's leading scorers with 15 and 12 points, respectively.
Senior face-off specialist Ryan Shaw (East Hampton, N.Y.) has won 79-of-175 attempts at the "X" for a .451 win percentage. In addition, Shaw has picked up a team-high 44 ground balls.
Freshman defender Jarrod Neumann (Springfield, Mass.) has anchored the Friar defense with 18 caused turnovers and 22 ground balls. In addition senior Zach Rogers (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif.) has caused 11 turnovers and has picked up 29 ground balls. On the defensive end, Providence has held its opponents to a 16-of-41 success rate for man-up opportunities.
Senior goalie Tyler Himes (Spring City, Pa.) has played 585:25 minutes between the pipes and has posted 109 saves. Himes owns a .509 saves percentage.
SCOUTING GEORGETOWN: The Hoyas enter Saturday's game with an overall record of 3-7, including a 0-2 mark in BIG EAST play. Three Hoyas have tallied 20+ points thus far. Peter Conley leads Georgetown with 28 points on a team-high 18 goals and 10 assists. Reilly O'Connor and Bo Stafford have notched 23 points apiece. The Hoyas' face-off specialist, Tyler Knarr, has won 141-of-225 attempts at the "X" for a .627 win percentage. In addition, Knarr has collected a team-high 108 ground balls. Georgetown goalie Jake Haley has recorded 603:03 minutes between the pipes and has posted 96 saves.
