PROVIDENCE, R.I. - On Monday, April 1 freshman goalie Jack Connelly (Kenilworth, Ill.) and sophomore midfielder Greg FitzMaurice(Huntington, N.Y.) were named to the BIG EAST men's lacrosse Weekly Honor Roll.
Connelly has started all 10 games in goal for the Friars and has had a successful start to his career with the Friars. Last week, Connelly logged 124 minutes in goal and recorded 21 saves to propel the Friars to victory. On the season, Connelly has played 583:44 minutes between the pipes. The freshman goalie has tallied 106 saves and holds a .505 save percentage in addition to a 10.69 goals against average.
FitzMaurice tallied three big time goals last week to pace the Friars to two wins. FitzMaurice notched the game equalizer in Providence's 10-9 win over Bryant. In addition, FitzMaurice buried a shot to send the game versus Rutgers into overtime. With 54 seconds left to play in overtime FitzMaurice scored the game-winning goal to give the Friars a 10-9 edge over the Scarlet Knights. FitzMaurice's goal notched Providence's first BIG EAST win of the season and second win since joining the conference in 2010.
FitzMaurice has started all l0 games for the Friars and ranks tied for fourth on the team in scoring with 13 points on 11 goals and two assists. In addition, FitzMaurice has collected five groundballs and caused two turnovers.
Providence returns to action on Tuesday, April 2 when the Friars travel to New Haven, Conn. to take on Yale. The game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
