Labadini Leads PC With 28 Points This Season

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team looks to earn its fourth-straight win against Canisius College on Saturday, March 28 at 1:00 p.m. at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. Friar fans can follow the game online by utilizing the gametracker feature on Friars.com. PC enters the game with a 3-4 record (2-0 MAAC) and could start 3-0 in the MAAC for the second-straight season and the third time since 2002 with a victory against the Golden Griffins. Canisius sports an 0-5 record in 2009.

PC and Canisius have split 14 all-time meetings, 7-7. Last season, Providence defeated the Golden Griffins, 11-5, on April 27, 2008 in Buffalo, N.Y. The Friars are 4-2 at home, 2-5 on the road and 1-0 on neutral fields all-time against Canisius.

The Friars are coming off a 12-4 win over Wagner on Saturday, March 21 in Staten Island, N.Y. Senior attackman Bobby Labadini (Westford, Mass.) recorded a personal-best eight points on six goals and two assists in Providence's 12-4 win at Wagner. The eight points were the most scored by a Friar since Kyle Ojakian registered four goals and four assists on April 13, 2002 at Saint Joseph's.

Labadini was named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, March 23 after his performances against Wagner and Quinnipiac on March 18. Labadini also won the award on March 9 and leads the Friars with 28 points on 17 goals and 11 assists this season.

Canisius is 0-5 (0-2 MAAC) after losing to Saint Joseph's, 7-6, on March 21 in Buffalo.

Offensively, the Golden Griffins are led by MAAC Preseason Player of the Year Adam Jones. The 5-9 sophomore has posted 15 points on 14 goals and an assist this season. Nick LeCoco, a preseason selection at attack, has recorded three goals and nine assists in 2009.

On defense, Quinnipiac is anchored by junior defender Matt Barkas who ranks first on the team with 11 caused turnovers and has picked up a team-high 30 ground balls so far this season. Senior goaltender Bryan Jack has played 279:31 minutes in goal this season. Jack has made 45 saves and allowed 52 goals for a 11.16 goals against average and .464 save percentage in 2009.

 

 

After Saturday's contest, Providence remains at home for a 2:00 p.m. contest with MAAC foe Saint Joseph's on Saturday, April 4 at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. Admission is free.
