John Farley Selected Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Defensive Player Of The Week In Men's Lacrosse
March 25, 2002 EDISON, N.J. - Senior goaltender John Farley (West Simsbury, Conn.) has been named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Goaltender of the Week, for the week ending March 24, 2002. The announcement was made by the MAAC office on Monday, March 25. It is the third time in Farley's career that he has earned MAAC Defensive Player of the Week honors. Last season, Farley earned the honor twice (4/8/01 and 4/22/01). Farley helped the Friars to a 2-0 record last week with victories over MAAC foe Wagner, 8-3, and Butler, 7-5. Farley played all sixty minutes in both contests. On March 20, he collected eight saves against Wagner and allowed a season-low, three goals on 20 shot attempts. On March 22, Farley registered 12 saves against Butler, and allowed just five goals on 20 shots from the Bulldogs. Farley finished the week with a 4.00 goals-against average. In the first six games of the 2002 schedule, Farley has played 302 minutes, making 67 saves and allowing 43 goals. He currently has a 8.54 goals against average and a .609 save percentage.
The Friars are 4-2 overall, and hold a 1-0 record in MAAC action through six games. Providence was picked to finish third in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, released on March 13. PC will host MAAC opponent Marist College on Tuesday, March 26 at 3:30 p.m. The game is scheduled to be played at Glay Field on the campus of Providence College.
