PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team is set to face-off against cross-town rival Brown at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 22 at Stevenson Field in Providence, R.I.
The Friars enter Saturday's game with an overall record of 3-4 (0-1 BIGEAST). Providence has posted wins over Vermont (8-6), Boston University (10-7) and Fairfield (14-11). The Friars have dropped decisions to Quinnipiac (16-9), Sacred Heart (11-10), UMass (16-11) and Rutgers (12-6).
Providence posted a 0-2 record last week with losses to UMass and Rutgers. On Tuesday March 11, the Friars fell to then ranked No. 14 UMass, 16-11. Providence concluded their week of play with a loss to Rutgers in their BIG EAST home opener, 12-6.
Providence trails Brown in the all-time series, 0-19. The Friars and Bears last met on April 16 when the Friars hosted Brown at Lennon Family Field. The Friars fell to Brown 7-6. Each of the Friars that tallied goals in the 2013 match-up return to the lineup for Saturday's contest. Junior Greg FitzMaurice (Huntington, N.Y.) led the offense with two goals. In addition, seniors Andrew Barton (Timonium, Md.), Sean Wright (Silver Spring, Md.) and Robby Stack (Medfield, N.J.), and sophomore Jake Newman (Mill Valley, Calif.) each found the back of the cage for the Friars.
Five Friars have tallied double digits in the scoring column. Seniors Andrew Barton (Timonium, Md.) and Sean Wright (Silver Spring, Md.) lead the Friar score sheet with 22 points apiece. Barton has notched 12 goals and dished out a team-high 10 assists while Wright has found the back of the cage 14 times and handed out eight assists. Freshman Alex Corboy (College Park, Md.) ranks second on the team in scoring with 19 points on a team-best 17 goals and two assists. Junior Greg FitzMaurice (Huntington, N.Y.) and freshman Joseph Fitzpatrick (Rockville, Md.) round out the top scorers with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Senior goalie Tyler Himes (Spring City, Pa.) has started each of the Friars' seven games between the pipes. In 341:59 minutes of action, Himes has posted 62 saves and owns a .492 save percentage.
SCOUTING BROWN... Brown enters Saturday's match-up with an overall record of 3-3 (0-1 Ivy League). Brown has posted wins over Quinnipiac (13-6), Hartford (12-7) and Hobart (13-10), and have dropped decisions to UMass (15-2), Harvard (16-10) and Bucknell (13-8). Sam Hurster leads Brown with 16 points on 10 goals and six assists. Four additional Bears have tallied double digits in the scoring column. Dylan Molly and Kylor Bellistri have tallied 14 points apiece while Brendan Caputo and Bailey Tills have tallied 12 and 10 points, respectively. Tommy Capone has taken a majority of the face-offs for Brown and has won 44-of-76 attempts for a .579 win percentage. Jack Kelly has played 313:34 minutes between the pipes and has posted 68 saves.
