PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team is set to host Siena on Saturday, March 23 at 1:00 p.m. in Providence, R.I. The game will be played on Lennon Family Field where the Friars own a 3-1 record on the season. Providence enters Tuesday's match-up with an overall record of 5-2 (0-2 BIG EAST).
Providence last played on Tuesday, March 19 when the Friars hosted No. 4 Syracuse in Providence, R.I. The Friars were topped by the Orange, 18-9. Despite the score, Providence competed with Syracuse in each statistical category, including shots, ground balls, face-off's and clears.
The Friars' offense has been a catalyst to their success. Providence has out-shot its opponents, 284-229 and out-scored its opponents, 84-76. Collectively the Friars have tallied 132 points on 84 goals and 48 assists. Junior attack Sean Wright (Silver Spring, Md.) leads the Friars in scoring with 29 points on a team-high 22 goals and seven assists. Fellow junior Andrew Barton(Timonium, Md.) stands behind Wright with 27 points on 15 goals and a team-best 12 assists. The duo has combned for 56 of the Friars' 132 points.
Junior Ryan Shaw(East Hampton, N.Y.) has added to the success of Providence. The face-off specialist has won 88-of-161 face-off atempts and collected a team high 50 ground balls.
The Friars defense, led by graduate student Michael Noyes (Ocean City, Md.), has been a key element for Providence. Noyes has collected 22 groundballs and caused a team high 15 turnovers. In addition, juniors Zach Rogers(Rolling Hills Estates, Calif.) and Ryan Marin (Ontario, N.Y.) have served as backbones of the defense. Rogers has collected 7 ground balls and caused 7 turnovers while Martin has picked up 11 ground balls and caused four turnovers.
Freshman Jack Connelly(Kenilworth, Ill.) has started all seven games for the Friars. Connelly has recorded 73 saves in 399:44 minutes in goal and holds a .500 save percentage.

SCOUTING SIENA (1-6 Overall, 0-1 MAAC): Siena enters Saturday's match having lost four consecutive games. The Saints dropped decisions to St. John's (12-11), Stony Brook (11-9), Hartford (15-4) and Jacksonville (11-10). Sophomores Conor Prunty and Nate Barry lead Siena in scoring with 19 points apiece. Prunty has tallied 14 goals and five assists while Barry has notched eight goals and dished out 11 assists. Four additional Saints have recorded double digits in the scoring column including red-shirt junior Kyle Curry (16), red-shirt sophomore Richie Hurley (16), junior Colin Clive (12) and senior Danny Martinsen (10). Sophomore Casey Dowd has dominated face-off's for Siena, winning 90-of-174 face-off attempts. Senior Matt Sharp has logged 421:52 minutes in goal for the Saints recording 94 saves. Sharp has a .511 save percentage and a 12.80 goals against average. Siena has been out-shot by its opponents, 312-270, and out-scored by its opponents, 90-74. The Saints have been successful on 120-of-144 clear attempts.
