Men's Lacrosse Hosts No. 10/9 Georgetown In Inaugural BIG EAST Game Sunday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team will host No. 10/9 Georgetown University on Sunday, March 21 at noon at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. The contest is the Friars' home opener and also marks the team's first ever BIG EAST Conference game. PC enters the contest with a 0-4 record, while Georgetown is 3-2. Sunday's matchup marks the fourth all-time meeting between the schools. The Hoyas hold a 2-1 lead in the all-time series. PC and Georgetown first met in 1987, with the Friars earning a 9-7 victory in Washington. The Hoyas have won the last two meetings in the series, with a 10-8 victory in 1991 and 16-5 triumph in 1993. Sunday's game will be the first contest between the schools in 17 seasons. The Friars are coming off a 17-3 setback to Massachusetts on March 16 in Amherst, Mass. Junior Evan Helda (Charlotte, N.C.) posted his team-leading fourth goal of the season against the Minutemen. After recording four goals in all of 2009, the 6-1 midfielder has reached the mark in only four games this season. Georgetown enters the contest with a 3-2 record, including a 1-1 record in BIG EAST play. The Hoyas are coming off a 13-11 win over rv/No. 19 Delaware on Wednesday, Mar. 17 in Washington. In conference, the team defeated St. John's, 9-6, on Mar. 6 and fell at No. 3/2 Syracuse, 15-12, at the Carrier Dome on Mar. 13. Offensively, the team is led by senior Craig Dowd. Dowd paces the team with 15 points on five goals and 10 assists on the season. After Sunday's contest, the Friars return to action on Saturday, March 27 at 1:00 p.m. against former MAAC rival Siena in Loudonville, N.Y.
