Men's Lacrosse Looks For Third-Straight Win Saturday At Wagner

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team looks to earn its third-straight win against Wagner College on Saturday, March 21 at 2:00 p.m. in Staten Island, N.Y. PC enters the game with a 2-4 record and could start 2-0 in the MAAC for the second-straight season with a victory against the Seahawks. Wagner owns a 1-6 record in 2009. The Friars own a 9-0 advantage in the all-time series and are 4-0 all-time at Wagner. Last season, PC defeated the Seahawks, 12-3, on April 23, 2008 in Providence. The Friars are coming off a 7-6 comeback win over Quinnipiac on Wednesday, March 18 at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. The Friars trailed by as many as four goals in the first half, but PC rallied to outscore the Bobcats 5-to-1 in the second half and pick up the win. Senior Danny Ryan (Chatham, N.J.) had a career night for PC, recording four points on three goals and an assist. Ryan has posted a least a point for Providence in each of the last four games. Wagner is 1-6 and is coming off a 21-8 loss at Robert Morris on March 17. The Seahawks' win came against Presbyterian, 12-7, on March 3. Offensively, Wagner is led by senior attackman Evan Shull. Shull has recorded 13 points on nine goals and four assists and has picked up 12 ground balls on the year. On defense, Quinnipiac is anchored by freshman defender Joe Fiorini who ranks first on the team with 13 caused turnovers and third with 13 ground balls so far this season. Freshman goaltender Peter Rubin has played 396:08 minutes in goal this season. Rubin has made 69 saves and allowed 102 goals for a 15.45 goals against average in 2009. After Saturday's contest, Providence hosts preseason MAAC favorite Canisius College on Saturday, March 28 at 1:00 p.m. at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. Admission is free.
