The Providence College men's lacrosse team will host Rutgers in its BIG EAST opener on Saturday, March 15 at 1:00 p.m. on Hendricken Field on the campus of Providence College in Providence, R.I. The Friars enter the match-up with an overall record of 3-3.
Providence and Rutgers last met on March 30, 2013 where the Friars topped the Scarlet Knights 10-9 in an overtime victory in Piscataway, N.J. The Friars trail Rutgers in the all-time series, 3-1.
Seniors Andrew Barton (Timonium, Md.) and Sean Wright (Silver Spring, Md.) lead the team in scoring with 20 points apiece. Barton has tallied 11 goals and nine assists while Wright has notched 13 goals and seven assists. Freshman attack Alex Corboy (College Park, Md.) has scored a team-high 14 goals and dished out two assists for 16 points.
Senior face-off specialist Ryan Shaw (East Hampton, N.Y.) has posted a .417 win percentage at the "X" thus far this season with wins on 35-of-84 attempts. In addition Shaw has picked up 15 groundballs.
Freshman defender Jarrod Neumann (Springfield, Mass.) has caused a team-high 13 turnovers and collected 14 groundballs.
Senior goalie Tyler Himes (Spring City, Pa.) has started each of the Friars' games between the pipes and has posted 47 saves in 283:38 minutes of play. In addition Himes owns and .475 save percentage.
SCOUTING RUTGERS: The Scarlet Knights enter Saturday afternoon with an overall record of 4-2. Rutgers has recorded wins over Manhattan, Wagner, Army and Monmouth and dropped decisions to Virginia and Stony Brook. Scott Klimchak leads Rutgers in scoring with 19 points on and team-best 17 goals and two assists. Five additional Scarlet Knights own double digits in the scoring problem. Connor Murphy has talled 14 points. Rich Rambo, Nick Depaolera and Anthony Terranova have each notched 12 points while Christian Trasolini has posted 11 points thus far. Kris Alleyne has played 302:35 minutes in goal for Rutgers and has tallied 59 saves.
