Providence, R.I. – The Providence College men’s lacrosse team lost to Harvard, 11-8, on Saturday (March 10) afternoon on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium.
1st Quarter: Harvard struck twice in the early going as Carney Mahon and Morgan Cheeck each found the back of the net to give the Crimson a 2-0 lead 1:03 into play. The Crimson opened up a 3-0 lead on Joe Lang’s first lead of the day, but Ryan Nawrocki (Smithtown, N.Y.) got the Friars on the board to trim the deficit to 3-1 after one.
2nd Quarter: Carney Mahon’s second goal of the day increased the Crimson's lead back to three, 4-1, but Brendan Kearns (Wantagh, N.Y.) scored his sixth of the season and Nawrocki followed with his second of the day 38 seconds later to pull the Friars to 4-3 with 11:31 left in the quarter. Harvard responded with a pair of goals, but Nick Hatzipetrakos (Syossett, N.Y.) scored his 13th goal of the season for the Friars. Lang then capped off his first half hat-trick with 50 seconds left to give Harvard a 7-4 lead going into the locker room.
3rd Quarter: The Crimson gained separation to begin the third quarter as goals from Tim Edmonds and Kyle Anderson increased Harvard’s lead to 9-4. Austin Goltz came thorugh with his first goal of the day to pull the Friars within 9-5 going into the final frame.
4th Quarter: The two sides traded goals throughout the fourth quarter. Nick Shaw (Canton, Mass.), Hatzipetrakos and Goltz all sored for Providence to keep them within striking distance, but a pair of goals from Harvard’s Kyle Salvatore prevented the Friars from ever getting closer than three.
Game Notes: Ryan Nawrocki, Nick Hatzipetrakos and Austin Goltz each scored two goals for the Friars while Joe Lang led Harvard with three goals (five total points). RJ Romeo (Wilton, Conn.) led the Friars with four ground balls while junior All-American goalie Tate Boyce (Matthews, N.C.) made 13 saves.
What’s Next: The Friars will host Hofstra on Saturday, March 17th on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. Opening faceoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
