Three Men’s Lacrosse Players Earn BIG EAST Weekly Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College men’s lacrosse player Zach Masessa (Montgomery, N.J.) was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday, Feb. 12. Masessa registered his first collegiate tally against Holy Cross in the Friars’ 9-6 victory on Saturday, Feb. 10. Masessa, made his collegiate debut Boston University on Feb. 3 and collected two groundballs.

Providence’s Nick Hatzipetrakos (Syossett, N.Y.) and James Barclay (Toronto, Ontario) were named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll. Hatzipetrakos registered six goals over two games, including five goals against the Crusaders on Feb. 10. Barclay has played an integral role on the Friars’ defensive line and has posted one assist, six groundballs and caused three turnovers in two games for the Friars.

Providence owns a 1-1 record on the season and is currently receiving votes in the USILA and Inside Lacrosse Maverick Media Polls. The Friars will return to action against Bryant at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17 at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium.
