PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team was picked to finish second in the 2008 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, released on Wednesday, February 6. Siena was picked to win the league and earned 79 points. The Friars accumulated 66 points in the poll and were the only league team to defeat Siena last season, and did so twice. On April 28, PC handed the Saints their first MAAC loss of the season (10-6) at The Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I. The Friars then entered the MAAC Tournament as the No. 4 seed and defeated top-seeded Siena for a second-straight time (9-7) during semifinal action in Emmitsburg, Md. on May 4. Canisius was picked to finish third (62 points) in the poll, followed by Saint Joseph's (56 points) and Marist (41 points) in fourth and fifth place, respectively. Manhattan and Mount St. Mary's each recorded 37 points in the preseason poll and sit in a tie for sixth. VMI (17 points) and Wagner (10 points) round out the preseason rankings. The Friars open the 2008 season at home against non-conference foe Fairfield on February 23. Providence begins league play on March 15 when it hosts Manhattan in Providence, R.I.
