PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team was defeated by No. 15/15 Villanova, 15-7 on Saturday, April 29 in Providence, R.I. The Friars move to 9-6 overall and post a 3-2 mark in the BIG EAST. The Wildcats post a 9-5 overall record and are 4-1 in the BIG EAST.

The Wildcats opened the first half with five consecutive tallies from Christian Cuccinello (2), Connor Kirst, Jake Froccaro and Jack Curran. Conner Byrne (Hicksville, N.Y.) put the Friars on the board with 13:04 remaining in the second quarter, 5-1.

Keenan Assaraf (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.) registered the second Friar goal with 5:53 remaining in the second quarter. Villanova's Froccaro, Curran, Connor Kirst and Cuccinello closed the quarter with one goal each to increase the Wildcat lead to 9-2 at the end of the first half.

The Friar attack struck first in the third quarter when Joshua Keller (Grand Rapids, Mich.) registered Providence's third goal of the game, 9-3. Froccaro scored his third goal of the game at 2:19 in the third quarter. Nick Hatzipetrakos (Syossett, N.Y.) responded 17 seconds later (2:02) to decrease Villanova's lead (10-4). Curran closed the third quarter with his third goal of the game (11-4).

Assaraf posted his second tally of the game in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter (11:15) to reduce the Wildcat lead to six goals, 11-5.

The Wildcats continued to test the Friars' defensive line in the fourth quarter, Kirst, Curran, Timmy Hardy and Kieran Byrnes each registered one goal to defeat the Friars 15-7. The Friars made a late offensive push with less than seven minutes remaining in the game. Ryan Schaffer (Plano, Texas) and Austin Goltz (Orchard Park, N.Y.) scored at 6:27 and 00:35, respectively.

Tate Boyce (Matthews, N.C.) recorded eight saves to Nick Testa's 10.

The Friars will enter the BIG EAST Tournament hosted in Providence, R.I. on May 4 & 6 as the No. 3 seed and will play No. 2 seeded Villanova at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday in the semifinals.
