Final Stats

PHILADELPHIA, PA. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team defeated Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe St. Joseph's, 5-4, on Saturday, April 12 in Philadelphia, Pa. It marks the fifth-straight victory for Providence as it improves to 5-5 overall, including a 5-0 mark in the MAAC. St. Joseph's drops to 2-9 overall (2-3 MAAC).

In a game that saw St. Joseph's outshoot the Friars, 28-17, junior goalkeeper Robert Bryan (Apex, N.C.) solidified the victory for PC with 13 saves.

Sophomore Colin Tigh (Garden City, N.Y.) led the Friars with two goals, while graduate student Bennett Murphy (Princeton, N.J.) recorded a game-high three points on one goal and two assists.

The Friars got out to a 3-0 lead in first quarter as sophomore Jackson Fallon (Arlington, Mass.), graduate student Mark Dillon (Gaithersburg, Md.) and Tigh each tallied goals. Fallon's goal came with 8:56 on the clock off a feed from Murphy. Dillon struck for PC's second goal of the day at the 7:22 mark off a pass from senior Robert Lamontagne (Pittsford, N.Y.). Tigh notched his first goal of the day as time expired in the first quarter off a feed from McBride.

St. Joseph's answered with three-straight goals. The Hawks recorded the only tally for either team in the second quarter at the 8:42 mark as Chris O'Neill found the back of the cage off a feed from Steve Varga. The offense continued for St. Joseph's in the third quarter on goals from Varga and Scott Cullinan at 10:35 and 8:29.

Murphy broke a 3-3 tie with his only goal of the afternoon at the 6:00-minute mark of the third quarter as McBride picked up his second assist of the afternoon. Tigh beat the goalie for his second goal of the game with 13:06 left on the clock in the fourth quarter to give PC a 5-3 advantage. Tigh's goal was assisted by Murphy.

The Hawks answered with an Andrew Mandela goal at 7:12, but it proved to be the final goal of the day for either team, making the final score, 5-4.
