Men's Lacrosse Defeated By Mount St. Mary's, 16-7
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Senior Brian Cox scored five goals to lead Mount St. Mary's to a 16-7 win against Providence College in men's MAAC lacrosse action on Saturday, April 1 at Providence, R.I. Mount St. Mary's wasted little time taking control of the game as the team took a 5-0 lead after 15 minutes of action. Junior Nick DeFelice was the offensive leader in the first quarter, scoring one goal and notching three assists. Sophomore Chris Houston got the Friars on the scoreboard, scoring the first of his team high three goals with six minutes remaining in the second quarter. Mount St. Mary's outscored PC, 4-3, in the second quarter and held a 9-3 lead at halftime. Mount St. Mary's kept Providence off the scoreboard in the third quarter and tallied five goals, including two by DeFelice, to earn a 14-3 lead after 45 minutes of action. The Friars outscored Mount St. Mary's, 4-2, in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough offense as the Mount earned its fifth win of the season. With the victory, Mount St. Mary's improved to 5-5 overall and 5-0 in MAAC action, while Providence fell to 5-3 overall and 4-1 in league play. The Friars will return to action on Wednesday, March 5 against Stony Brook at PC's Glay Field at 4:00 p.m.
