PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team fell to No. 12 Bryant on Tuesday, March 25 at the Ray Treacy Track Complex located in Providence, R.I. Providence moves to 3-6 (0-1) on the year while Bryant improves to 7-2 (1-0 NEC). Freshman Austin Goltz (Orchard Park, N.Y.) led the Friar offense with two goals.
Bryant opened the first quarter with back-to-back goals from Cody O'Donnell and Brett Baker to take a 2-0 lead (5:52). Senior Andrew Barton (Timonium, Md.) tallied the Friars' first goal of the night at the 3:10 mark (2-1). The remainder of the quarter was scoreless and Bryant carried a 2-1 advantage into the second 15 minutes of play.
Bryant took a 3-1 lead at 10:50 of the second quarter. Sophomore Nola Fillet (Rockville, Md.) found the back of the cage with 2:29 remaining in the quarter (3-2). Bryant closed the half with aman-up goal from Colin Dunster and the Bulldogs held a 4-2 advantage at the break.
Goltz pulled the Friars within one goal, 6-5, at the 4:46 mark with a snipe off of a feed from senior Sean Wright (Silver Spring, Md.). Bryant answered with a finish from O'Donnell with 4:03 left to play in regulation. Goltz struck again with 51 seconds remaining when he collected a deflection on a shot from Ortlieb (7-6), but that was as close as the Friars would get.
