Providence Men's Lacrosse Loses Close One to Mount St. Mary's

    EMMITSBURG, Md. -- The Providence College Friars were defeated by Mount St. Mary's, 9-8, on Saturday, March 21 in men's lacrosse action at Emmitsburg, Md. Sophomore Doug Thompson tallied the game-winning goal for the Mountaineers with 11:33 remaining in the game.

    Led by sophomore Ken Leahy's two goals, the Friars led 5-4 at halftime. However, Mount St. Mary's increased its offense over the final 30 minutes of the game outscoring the Friars, 5-3. Junior Matt Pymm was PC's leading scorer with one goal and three assists. Sophomore Steve Ricker recorded two goals and one assist for the Mountaineers.

    PC junior goalkeeper Rob Chambers registered 15 saves in the loss.

    With the win, Mount St. Mary's raised its record to 1-5 overall and 1-0 in MAAC action, while Providence dropped to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in league play.

    PC returns to action on Wednesday, March 25 against Lehigh University at PC's Glay Field at 3:00 p.m.
