The Providence College men's lacrosse team (0-5, 0-1 BIG EAST) fell to No. 10/9 Georgetown University in its home opener by the score of 14-4 on Sunday, March 21 at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. The contest marked the Friars first ever BIG EAST conference game. With the win, the Hoyas improve to 4-2 and 2-1 in BIG EAST play.
Senior attackman Garrett Kanter (Marblehead, Mass.) led the Friar offense with his first goal of the season and added three ground balls. Senior defenseman Ryan Riedl (Winchester, Mass.) anchored the Providence defensive unit with four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
The Hoyas posted the first eight goals of the contest and took an 8-0 lead into halftime. The Friars opened the scoring in the third quarter, as junior midfielder Evan Helda (Charlotte, N.C.) found an opening in the Georgetown defense and surged through the attack box for a score at the 10:52 mark. After a goal by the Hoyas' Francis McDonough, the Friars found the back of the net again, this time on a goal by Kanter off a good feed from senior attackman Colin Tigh (Garden City, N.Y.) with 6:09 to play in the period. The goal cut the Georgetown lead to 9-2.
The Hoyas posted the next two scores of the game to extend their advantage to 11-2 with 3:57 remaining in the third quarter. Less than two minutes later, the Friars struck back, as freshman midfielder Kyle Dexter (Victoria, British Columbia) made a nice move and passed a number of Hoya defenders to move PC back within eight at 11-3. From there, Craig Dowd responded with a goal with 1:37 to play in the third to give Georgetown a 12-3 advantage. The Friars added a score in the final quarter, as junior midfielder Mike Feldberg (Voorhees, N.J.) found the back of the net to make the score 12-4 Hoyas. Georgetown posted the final two goals of the game.

Tim Finnegan (Lowell, Mass.) took the loss for the Friars in net, allowing two goals in 1:59 minutes of action, senior
Frank Cicero (Venetia, Pa.) played the final 58:01 in the cage for PC. Cicero allowed 12 goals while making 12 saves in the contest.
