The Providence College men's lacrosse team defeated St. Joseph's, 8-7, in double overtime on March 18 in Philadelphia, Pa. It marked the first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) game for both teams.
Senior Mark Seyer (Kirkwood, Mo.) scored the game-winning goal for Providence in a man-up situation at the 1:33 mark of the second overtime. The game winner was assisted by junior Brendan Ryan (Chatham, N.J.). It marked Ryan's team-best second assist of the day and gives him six assists on the season to lead Providence.
Seniors Michael Farley (Westfield, N.J.) and Tom Kelly (Henniker, N.H.) each scored a team-best two goals for the Friars. Graduate student Jonathan Hollister (Longmeadow, Mass.) tallied one goal and one assist in the game. Junior Mark Dillon (Gaithersburg, Md.) and junior Bennett Murphy (Princeton, N.J.) each added one goal.
Mike O'Neill paced the Hawks with a game-high six points on four goals and two assists.
Junior Peter Littell (Upper Montclair, N.J.) earned the victory for PC between the pipes with 14 saves. Erik Hotaling made eight saves for St. Joseph's in goal.
Providence (1-2, 1-0 MAAC) returns to action on Saturday, March 25 against MAAC foe Wagner. The game will be played at the Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I. at 2:00 p.m.
