HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- The Providence College Friars were defeated, 18-2, in their season opener by the 13th-ranked Hofstra University Flying Dutchmen on Tuesday, March 10 in men's lacrosse action at Hempstead, N.Y. Senior Brian Langtry led the Hofstra offense with four goals and two assists, while Jarred Testa added three goals and three assists.
The Friars trailed 3-1 after the first quarter, but allowed six unanswered goals in the second quarter and trailed 9-1 at halftime. The Flying Dutchmen continued to press on offense, scoring five goals in the third and four goals in the fourth quarter. PC's goals were scored by junior Craig Schwalb and senior Jason Hanrahan.
PC sophomore goalkeeper Brian McCarthy made a career high 27 saves in the loss.
With the win, Hofstra raises its record to 2-1 overall, while Providence drops to 0-1 overall.
PC returns to action on Saturday, March 14 against Quinnipiac College at PC's Glay Field at 1:00 p.m.
