Men's Lacrosse Opens 2002 Season At Pioneer Face Off Classic

DENVER, Colo. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team fell to the University of Denver, 15-3, on Saturday, March 9, in Denver, Colorado, as part of the Pioneer Face Off Classic. Denver got off to a strong start versus the Friars with 11-straight unanswered goals, extending into the third quarter of play. Providence got on the board 9:12 into the third period as junior Skip Dunphy (Manhasset, N.Y.) connected on a goal assisted by senior Kyle Ojakian (Cheshire, Conn.). Junior Jon Meehan (Peabody, Mass.) scored the Friars' second goal of the game just minutes later, to make the score 11-2, off an assist from freshman Dan Giuntini (Flora Park, N.Y.). That was as close as PC would get, as Denver answered with four-straight goals in the fourth. Junior David Kole (Montclair, N.J.) added the third and final goal for the Friars with 3:12 remaining in the game. The goal was assisted by freshman David Krasnica (Mendham, N.J.). Providence starts the 2002 season with a 0-1 record, and will face Air Force at 1:00 p.m. (EST) on Sunday, March 10. The Friars host Harvard in their home-opener on Wednesday, March 13 at 3:00 p.m. The game is scheduled to be played at Glay Field on the campus of Providence College.
