Final Stats

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team fell to sixth-ranked Maryland, 13-5, in non-conference action on Monday, March 3 in College Park, Md. Senior Devin McBride (Marblehead, Mass.) led the Friars with two goals, while sophomore Colin Tigh (Garden City, N.Y.) registered two assists. Maryland was led offensively by Travis Reed, who scored two goals. Ryan Young added two goals and one assist.

Maryland got out to a 5-0 lead through the completion of the first quarter and outscored Providence, 3-1, in the second quarter to take an 8-1 lead into halftime. The Friars got on the board in the second quarter at the 5:30 mark as McBride notched a goal off an assist from graduate student Mark Dillon (Gaithersburg, Md.).

In the third quarter, the Friars matched the Terrapins offensively, as each team recorded two goals to make the score 10-3. McBride and sophomore Jackson Fallon (Arlington, Mass.) each found the back of the net for PC in the quarter. Tigh assisted on both Friar goals.

In the fourth quarter, Dillon tallied a goal to make the score 11-4 with 3:51 remaining, before Maryland rattled off two goals of its own. Providence freshman Mike Feldberg (Voorhees, N.J.) tacked on the Friars final goal of the afternoon with 21-second left in the game to make the final score, 13-5. Graduate student Bennett Murphy (Princeton, N.J.) was credited with the assist.

Junior goalkeeper Robert Bryan (Apex, N.C.) took the loss for Providence in between the pipes with nine goals against and two saves in 23:52 minutes of play. Frank Cicero relieved Bryan and played 36:08 minutes. Cicero made six saves and allowed four goals. Brian Phipps took the win for Maryland in the net. In 30 minutes of action, he made two saves and allowed one goal. Jason Carter played the final 30 minutes for Maryland in the net and allowed four goals and made three save.

 

 

Providence returns to action on Saturday, March 8 against Quinnipiac. The game will be played in Hamden, Conn. and is slated for a 1:00 p.m. opening face-off.
