John Pynchon begins his first season with the Friar men's lacrosse program as an assistant coach. Prior to this year's stint on the sidelines as a member of the staff, Pynchon enjoyed a successful four-year career at Providence as a player. A two-year captain, and winner of the Mark C. Cordon Heart & Soul Award in 2005, he played an important role in the Friars' defensive unit. During his career, he played 38 career games and registered 31 groundballs. In 2005, Pynchon recorded his best season with the "Black & White". He started all 16 of the Friars' games at defense and picked up a single-season career-high of 31 groundballs. His 31 pick-ups also ranked second among his teammates. In his four years on the squad, he helped to guide the Friars to four-straight MAAC Final Four appearances, two MAAC Regular-Season Championships (2003, 2005), one MAAC Tournament Championship (2004) and the program's first appearance in the NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship. Pynchon is a native of Ipswich, Mass. and attended St. John's Prep. He graduated from Providence College in 2005 and is currently pursuing a master's degree in history at PC. His younger brother, Henry, is a junior midfielder for the Friars. |
