PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College men's hockey defenseman Alex Velischek (Kinnelon, N.J.) was named Hockey East Rookie of the Week on Monday, November 30. It marks the first time that Velischek has earned the rookie of the week honors and he is the first PC player to earn the accolade since Alex Beaudry did it on January 19, 2009.

Velischek helped the Friars defeat No. 3 UMass Lowell, 4-2, on Tuesday, November 24. His power-play goal in the third period proved to be the game winner and it also was the first goal of his collegiate career. Velischek also had one assist.

The Friars (7-5-1, 2-3-1 Hockey East) are back in action on Friday, December 4 at 7:00 p.m. when they play the first of two games at the University of Maine.
