Oct. 30, 2017

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - After two wins over nationally ranked opponents, Providence College's Hayden Hawkey (Parker, Colo.) was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week in an announcement made by the league on Monday (Oct. 30).

Hawkey stopped 24 shots in Providence's 2-1 win over No. 19 Boston College on Friday and turned away all 22 shots against No. 6 Boston University on Saturday for his fifth career shutout. Overall, Hawkey posted a 0.50 GAA and .979 save percentage on the weekend. This marks the second time Hawkey has earned Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week recognition in his career.

The shutout of the Terriers was the first for the Friars over BU since 2004 and marked the first shutout for the Friars in 71 all-time meetings between the schools at Schneider Arena.
