PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College junior goalie Chris Mannix (Hubbardston, Mass.) was named Hockey East Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, October 29, while classmate Kyle Laughlin (Gambrills, Md.) was named to the Honor Roll. It marks the first time since January 22, 2007 that a Friar has earned defensive player of the week honors. Mannix helped the Friars to a win and a tie against the UMass Minutemen over the weekend. On Friday, October 26, Mannix stopped 20 of the 21 shots he faced to lead the Friars to a 3-1 win over UMass marking the team's first victory of the season. The following night, he made a career-high 37 saves as the Friars earned a 3-3 overtime tie at the Mullins Center in Amherst, Mass. Laughlin scored the game-winning goal and added one assist in PC's 3-1 win over UMass on Friday. On Saturday, he recorded one goal and one assist as the Friars rallied to tie the Minutemen, 3-3, at Schneider Arena.
Providence College is back in action on Thursday, November 1 when it hosts Boston University at 7:00 p.m. The game will be aired live on Cox Sports.
