WAKEFIELD, Mass. -
Men’s hockey freshman goalie Jon Gillies (South Portland, Maine) was named the Hockey East Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.
Gillies, who has started four straight games to open the season, posted a 0-1-1 record at fourth-ranked Miami (Ohio) over the weekend, including a .914 save percentage, a 2.34 GAA and 53 saves in 128:02 of work in a pair of overtime games. He stopped 27 of 28 shots to lead the Friars to a 1-1 overtime tie on Friday night.
