COX Sports announced that it will provide exclusive local coverage of eight men's hockey games during the 2012-13 season.

The men’s hockey team will appear on television 11 times during the 2012-13 regular season it was announced at the league’s annual media day, held in the Legends Club at the TD Garden on Tuesday afternoon. Hockey East Commissioner Joe Bertagna also announced the 2012-13 preseason coaches poll and the league’s head coaches picked the Friars to place sixth in Hockey East.
The Friars will play on national television at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 10 when they take on Hockey East rival New Hampshire in a game that will be carried by CBS Sports Network (CBSSN). Providence’s game versus Boston University on Saturday, Jan. 26 will be televised by the New England Sports Network (NESN). Additionally, NESN and NBC Sport Network (NBCSN) will broadcast Hockey East quarterfinal action (March 15-17), as well as the semifinals and championship games (March 22 and 23) of the 2013 Hockey East Tournament.
COX Sports (COX) also announced that it will provide exclusive local coverage of eight Providence College men’s hockey games during the 2012-13 season. Cox’s coverage kicks off with the Friars’ home-opening Hockey East series versus Maine on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 26 and 27. Cox will also air home games versus Northeastern (Nov. 16), Boston College (Dec. 7 and March 1), Vermont (Dec. 20), New Hampshire (Feb. 8) and Merrimack (Feb. 17).
Lastly, Providence’s 7:00 p.m. game at Massachusetts on January 12 is slated to air on CBS 3 in western Massachusetts.
In the 2012-13 preseason coaches poll, the Friars finished with 44 points to tie Northeastern for sixth. It is the highest the Friars have been picked in the preseason coaches poll since the 2006-07 season, when they were also picked sixth. Providence was chosen fifth in the 2012-13 Hockey East media poll.
The Friars open the 2012-13 season at home against Sacred Heart at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12. The following night, Providence opens Hockey East play at 7:00 p.m. against Boston University in Boston, Mass.
