Eight Men's Hockey Players Named to All-Academic Team
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- It was announced last week that eight Providence College hockey players were named to the HOCKEY EAST All-Academic Team. It marks the first time PC has placed eight student-athletes on the HOCKEY EAST All-Academic Team. To qualify for the HOCKEY EAST All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must achieve at least a 3.0 grade point average in each of the two semesters which he played hockey in 1998-99.
The eight PC players named to the team were sophomore Cole Gendreau (Bismarck, N.D.), junior Dave Gunderson (Duluth, Minn.), senior Mark Kane (St. Albert, Alberta), senior Troy Lake (Edmonton, Alberta), sophomore Adam Lee (Brampton, Ontario), sophomore Matt Libby (Saco, Maine), junior Josh MacNevin (W. Lethbridge, Albera) and sophomore J.J. Picinic (Fort Lee, N.J.). In addition to being named to the All-Academic Team, Kane was one of only four players in the league to earn HOCKEY EAST Distinguished Scholar accolades. To earn a Distinguished Scholar honor, a player must be named to the All-Academic Team each of the four seasons of his collegiate career. Kane is first HOCKEY EAST Distinguished Scholar ever at Providence College.
