PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
Eight current Providence College men's hockey players and recent graduate Tim Schaller '13 (Merrimack, N.H.) are attending National Hockey League (NHL) Development Camps this July.
The list of current Friars includes sophomores Noel Acciari (Johnston, R.I.), Jon Gillies (South Portland, Maine), John Gilmour (Montreal, Quebec), Mark Jankowski (Dundas, Ontario), Nick Saracino (St. Louis, Mo.) and Brandon Tanev (Toronto, Ontario) as well as incoming freshmen Anthony Florentino (West Roxbury, Mass.) and Conor MacPhee (Windham, N.H.).
Acciari, Gillies, Gilmour and Jankowski are attending the Calgary Flames' Development Camp. Gillies (2012|third round|75th overall), Gilmour (2013|seventh round|198th overall) and Jankowski (2012|first round|21st overall) were drafted by the Flames over the past two years, while Acciari is attending as an invitee.
Schaller and Florentino are at the Buffalo Sabres camp. Florentino was recently selected by the Sabres in the fifth round (143rd overall) in the 2013 NHL Draft, while Schaller signed a two-year deal with the Sabres organization after his career with the Friars came to a close.
Tanev and MacPhee attended the Washington Capitals' camp as invitees.
Most recently, Saracino received an invite to New Jersey's Development Camp, which begins today (July 15) at the AmeriHealth Pavilion at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
Drafted players and free-agent prospects are allowed to participate in the development camps, which are held throughout the month of July.
