McKenzie, Monk Ink Contracts with the Worcester Railers

July 7, 2017

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - It was announced today (July 7) that former Providence College defensemen Kyle McKenzie (Aston, Pa.) and Josh Monk (Langley, British Columbia) have signed contracts with the Worcester Railers of the ECHL.

McKenzie finished his career with the Friars totaling one goal and 22 assists with a +39 rating in 153 career games.  The 153 games played rank second all-time in program history.  As an alternate captain in 2016-17, McKenzie led the team with 54 blocked shots, the third time in his four-year career at Providence that he led the Friars in blocks.

Monk posted a career-high 20 points on three goals and 17 assists in 28 games during the 2016-17 season. Serving as captain of the Friars last year, the senior defenseman also recorded a +12 rating, blocked 34 shots, and registered six multi-point games. In 107 career games, Monk amassed five goals and 37 assists with a +38 rating.

The Railers, coached by former Providence College Assistant Coach Jamie Russell, will begin their inaugural season in the ECHL in 2017-18 as an affiliate of the New York Islanders.  McKenzie and Monk are the fourth and fifth signings the club has made.
